Writing Certificate of Performance.   In summary, the Mesa College Creative Writing Certificate of Performance acknowledges
immersion in the study and practice of creative writing along with a complementary study of literature. Requirements include two creative writing courses, two literature courses, and one additional course in either creative writing or literature.

Dear Student,

The Mesa College English Department is pleased to announce the new "Creative Writing Certificate of Performance." The required courses for this certificate are listed at  http://classroom.sdmesa.edu/sstarbuck2/cwc.html .

This certificate is designed to support students preparing to transfer 4-year schools as English or Creative Writing majors. In addition, the certificate seeks to promote student discovery and growth as writers, provide an active college writing community, and encourage student writers to immerse themselves in literature. Students may be preparing portfolios for upper division programs. Only two creative writing classes may be transferred to SDSU for the English major. However, the certificate includes transfer general education courses and other creative writing courses which may be used as electives.

Students can earn the Certificate without majoring in English or receiving an associate's degree. However, all courses on the Certificate must be completed in the San Diego Community College District. There are no challenges to this rule and courses from other colleges will not be transferred for this Certificate.

To receive the Certificate, students must petition in I3 - 201, Evaluator's Office, after the work is completed. The Certificate will be signed by the college president but it will not appear on the college transcript.
