Superior ability to understand and use English is necessary for success in such careers as education, writing, advertising, selling, journalism, law, business and government. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution should learn the requirements for English majors at that institution.

Statement of Goals:

The goals of the creative writing certificate are to encourage creative writing students so that they will want to learn and grow as writers, give creative writing students a sense of community, help prepare students for upper division writing programs, and give students a program of study that will help guide the development of their writing skills.

This certificate is designed for students who want to hone their writing skills by participating in creative writing workshops and immersing themselves in literature and also for students preparing portfolios for 4-year colleges. Only two creative writing classes may be transferred to SDSU for the English major. However, the certificate also includes transfer general education courses, and other creative writing courses may transfer as electives.
