Dr. Saloua Saidane joined the Department of Chemistry as a new full-time assistant professor of Introductory and General Chemistry, in the Fall 2005 semester. Saloua received a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Chemistry, a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, all from the University of Tunis in Tunisia. Additionally she completed 15 units of graduate education courses at Rutgers University in curriculum development and administration. Dr. Saidane has received many awards throughout her career including pre-doctoral fellowships at the University of Paris IV and the Institute of Catalysis - Lyon (both in France), a Fulbright fellowship at the University of California, Davis and California Institute of Technology, as well as a Geraldine R. Doge Fellowship for outstanding teachers. Additionally she holds teaching credentials in Chemistry and Physics in California as well as Physical Science in New Jersey.

Dr. Saidane began her teaching career at the University of Tunis as an Assistant and then Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry from 1983 through 1992. She then moved to Rutgers University in New Jersey, where she served as a lecturer of Organic Chemistry. Following that assignment, Saloua served as a curriculum developer and teacher with the Bound Brook High School and subsequently the Preuss School of UCSD. Since 2001, she has held concurrent adjunct appointments in Chemistry and Physical Science at Mesa, Miracosta and Cuyamaca colleges. Saloua has additional research experience at the Department of Chemical Engineering of UC, Davis. Her research experience has emphasized catalysis, material syntheses and characterization as well as organic synthesis. As a result, she has an impressive records of published scientific articles to her credit.

Dr. Saidane presents learning as a stimulating adventure and believes that education and knowledge are keys to self-empowerment. More importantly, she sincerely believes that all students can learn once properly instructed and will rise to the level of expectations set before them. She is skilled with instructional technologies having taken quite a number of workshops and extension courses, as well as integrating technology into her classes. As someone with a number of international experiences, Dr. Saidane has a keen awareness of diversity among students and colleagues and has worked toward meeting a variety of needs effectively.
