Fossil Mysteries Exhibit  (Admission Fee $11, with Student ID $7-$8)

Fossil Mysteries, a highly interactive exhibition, explores big themes in science: evolution, extinction, ecology, and Earth processes. Abundant fossils, models, murals, and dioramas offer unique multi-sensory experiences. You'll see the world—past and present—in a whole new way.

Assignment (due on day of final exam by midnight, via www.turnitin.com):

Your assignment is to tour the Fossil Mysteries Exhibit at the museum. You should plan to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours performing a systematic investigation of this exhibit.  Please bring a pencil and paper so you can take detailed notes of your observations (If you have kids, bring them along; they'll love it!).

As you investigate various fossils, models, and interactive displays, try to summarize the information you come away with so you can use your notes to write a short paper about your experience.  Please bring a camera along so you can take pictures of your experience.  Try to take at least one picture with yourself in the photo as evidence of your visit.

Following your exhibit tour, please write a 3-page paper (double-spaced, 1-inch margins) summarizing your museum experience. Please attach physical evidence of your museum visit to your paper (for example, your admission stub or a museum brochure).

Begin your paper by describing the exhibit, summarizing key information from the exhibit.  Then, discuss the following questions: (1) What aspects of the exhibit did you find most interesting?  (2) Which interactive displays caught your attention?  (3) Did your knowledge of geology help you understand the displays in greater depth?  (4) What was your overall impression of the exhibit?

Paper Submittal Instructions:

Please submit the text of your paper via www.turnitin.com.  E-mail your photos to me directly at dbarrie@sdccd.edu.  Please include your name and section in the title of your email.
